Arya Vysyas are one of the 3 sub-sects of the Komati caste, the other 2 being Kalinga Vysya and Thrivarnika. Arya Vysyas are distributed throughout Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. Kalinga Vysyas are mostly spread in srikakulam and Vijayanagaram districts of Andhra Pradesh and Orissa, whereas Thrivarnikas are small in number and spread in small pockets of Vizianagaram, Vishakapatanam, East Godavari and Warangal districts. Arya Vysyas are vegetarians whereas the other two sub-sects are non-vegetarians.Orthodox Vysyas follow the rituals as prescribed in the Vasavi Puranam. Sri Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari Devi is the main Goddess or Kula Devata of Arya Vysyas.
The birth place of Sri Kanyaka Parameshwari is Penugonda, a town in West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh. It is considered as the " Kasi of Vysyas ". There a large temple has been constructed for the holy goddess.
